The First Commandment
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me”
Question: Will obeying the First Commandment help you to heal?
Answer: Yes. Here is what Mrs. Eddy tells us:
“The First Commandment, ‘Thou shalt have no other gods before me,’ suggests the inquiry, What meaneth this Me, — Spirit, or matter? It certainly does not signify a graven idol, and must mean Spirit. Then the commandment means, Thou shalt recognize no intelligence nor life in matter; and find neither pleasure nor pain therein. The Master’s practical knowledge of this grand verity, together with his divine Love, healed the sick and raised the dead.” (Mis. 28)
“I understand that God is an everpresent help in all times of trouble, — have found Him so; and would have no other gods, no remedies in drugs, no material medicine.” (Mis. 96)
“To-day, if ye would hear His voice, listen to His Word and serve no other gods. Then the divine Principle of good, that we call God, will be found an everpresent help in all things, and Christian
Science will be understood. It will also be seen that this God demands all our faith and love; that matter, man, or woman can never heal you nor pardon a single sin; while God, the divine Principle
of nature and man, when understood and demonstrated, is found to be the remote, predisposing, and present cause of all that is rightly done. (My. 152)
Practice: As you grow in your faith and understanding of God, you, too, will be able to heal the sick. Practice today by affirming the presence of God’s power only. If God did not make sickness, then it has no power to harm you.
