“Our Father which art in heaven” – Q&A #15

Our Father which art in heaven,
Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious

Question: Did God create Himself?

Answer: God is self-existent Mind. Mind is the creative aspect of God, the source of all wisdom. Mind is the only Cause and Creator of all that exists. There is no element of mortal time in the
divine Mind, so there is no beginning or ending for God and His reflection.

When you ponder the nature of God as Father, you will find that the synonym Mind includes the qualities and functions of Father. A father does not create himself, but does create offspring. Mind’s offspring are ideas that represent Mind.

“Mind creates His own likeness in ideas, and the substance of an idea is very far from being the
supposed substance of non-intelligent matter. Hence the Father Mind is not the father of matter.”  (S&H 257:12-15)

“Infinite Mind creates and governs all, from the mental molecule to infinity.” (S&H 507:24-25)

“Mind, supreme over all its formations and governing them all, is the central sun of its own systems
of ideas, the life and light of all its own vast creation; and man is tributary to divine Mind.”
(S&H 209:5-8)

We see that God is supreme, and has always existed as the center of His universe. God, as
divine Mind, creates ideas, but did not create Himself at some point in a human timeline.
Because God is the creative Mind, man reflects Mind in qualities such as intelligence, resourcefulness, originality, and insight.
